Pictures of Andes, Down on the farm

Last Wednesday was the first sunny clear (and warm!) day we've had in a couple of weeks, so I hiked up the ridge behind our house (we took a scouting hike up there last weekend) to get some pictures of the Cordillera de los Andes. Here they are! (from north to south, approximately)

You can't see the Andes from our house, but I could see our house and the Andes at the same time! Our house is at the lower left, the shiny roof below the little black speck of a boat and the tall pine tree (or maybe it's a eucalyptus - they grow down here too); at the right might be Volcan Minchinmavida (that's my story, and I'm sticking with it!). One thing I need to get is a better map with the names and maybe even pictures of the volcanic peaks.
Today we spent the day at Lisa's colleague Tamara's farm in the hills above Chonchí. They have a weekend place about 45 mins. drive south of Castro. We saw little lambs that had been born last week, a big pig, some chickens, and a cow; and we ate some yummy curanto that Tamara made for us. Tamara taught Lisa how to make curanto (with foil instead of big leaves of seaweed), milcao, and chapaleles (another meat-filled potato goodie). As the mist cleared, we could see the line of peaks of the cordillera emerge - they have a fantastic view from their place! We were especially kicking ourselves for not bringing our cameras as the sun got lower in the sky and brought out the detail of the peaks. Hopefully we'll be back!

Love the pics--what a gorgeous view! Keep the stories coming.

Just curious...if you were going to get peanut butter, would you rather have creamy or chunky?

    happy weekend,
